Occupational Rehabilitation

At OMHS we work primarily in return to work following a mental health condition. We believe return to work plans for psychological conditions should not be the same as those for a physical condition. We design return to work programs based on assessed psychological capacity, cognitive behavioural principles and practical, real-world workplace strategies.

Psychological Services

OMHS provides psychological treatment and vocational recovery programs. We are registered to provide treatment services under Medicare, the NSW and Queensland workers compensation schemes and Comcare. Our psychologists’ scope of practice includes common mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and trauma-related conditions. We also provide work-related psychological assessments, with recommendations that are practical and realistic.

Corporate Services

Our Corporate Program is focused on supporting organisations in managing mental health within the work environment. This includes consulting, mentoring and supervisor training and coaching to address the gap between general mental health first aid training and the specific relational skills required when supporting employees returning from mental health-related absences.

OMHS also offers an assessment on the current status of organisations in relation to their mental health policies and practices. This assessment identifies gaps in managing mental health and a strategy and plan can be formalised for improvements.

Group Training

Our flagship 12-module group training Vocational Recovery Program for Mental Health Claimants has been adapted to various occupational groups and also formatted to suit client needs.

Occupational rehabilitation, designed for mental health

Traditional occupational rehabilitation was built around physical injury. OMHS designs occupational rehabilitation specifically for psychological injury and mental health conditions — grounded in our published research and recovery-oriented principles.

Because recovery and return to work look different in every occupation, we tailor programs to particular cohorts and their working realities — police and first responders, teachers, and other high-demand occupations — including programs for trauma-related conditions such as PTSD.

Vocational Recovery Program

Our Vocational Recovery Program supports people with mental health claims to rebuild capacity, confidence and work readiness. Developed from vocational recovery research and adapted for different occupational groups, the program is delivered individually or in groups, in person or by telehealth. Progress is measured with validated tools across health, functioning and return-to-work milestones, with clear reporting back to referrers, and the program is designed to align with SIRA recovery and work participation principles.

Recovery-oriented workforce training

We train the people who support recovery: insurance claims teams and case managers, managers and HR, rehabilitation providers and health professionals. Practical, research-informed skills for supporting people through mental health recovery and return to work — beyond general mental health awareness training.
